Every decade or so for the past forty years, each side of the political spectrum has either peaked or gone too far. The right peaked with the fall of the Soviet Union. The left peaked with the creative explosion of the early Internet, then overreached with the liberal optimism that blinded them to the threats behind 9/11. The right overreached with the deregulation that led to the Great Recession. The left peaked again with the ZIRP-fueled startup boom, then overreached with the social controls of the COVID era. Wonder how the right peaks or overreaches next.
