The Ananda Temple (အာနန္ဒာ ဘုရား) in Bagan, is a renowned Buddhist temple built in 1105 AD during King Kyansittha’s reign (1084–1112/13) of the Pagan Dynasty. Its cruciform layout features multiple terraces leading to a small pagoda topped with an ornamental umbrella (hti), a common element in Myanmar's pagodas. The temple houses four standing Buddha statues, each facing a cardinal direction. A fusion of Mon and Indian architectural styles, Ananda Temple is considered an architectural masterpiece and has been dubbed the "Westminster Abbey of Burma." It closely resembles the 10th–11th century Pathothamya Temple and is also known as a "veritable museum of stones."
