Web3 has made “protocol” a loose term

The line between app and protocol was completely wiped out in the past 2 years 💀

Better word for most of them would be “network” or “platform”

Going for "protocol" comes with altruistic expectations, most were poorly documented SaaS when you broke it down to the nuts and bolts

is it shifting? very few of the quick-to-market platforms launched recently call themselves protocols

it's hard and appears to show very little return
