It might sound crazy, but these have a better sound quality than AirPods Max. 

I might even say that the lightning adapter reduces the quality a bit. Maybe it’s just me. (Any audiophile expert here?)

what do you mean by “better”? they are objectively worse by pretty much every metric besides portability and weight.

the earpods aren't able to reproduce low frequencies anywhere near what the APM are capable of. imo the APM tuning is also more pleasing, basically a gentle slop downwards despite some anomalies between 2-6k. in general I'd say they are higher quality, as shown in the L/R consistency.

APM are some of the most bass-heavy and "bottom up" BT headphones I've heard other than Focal Bathys, so makes no sense to me that you'd get better bass with earpods. they also avoid a boomy or muddy presentation like Beats or similar, though I'd agree that they're not the most transparent or detailed.

from my experience, for wireless listening they sound best with Apple Music streaming specifically vs. other sources. haven't experimented with wired vs. wireless.

I'm not the biggest APM fan since they are heavy and still feel like a v1 product (imo), but their sonic performance is pretty good for wireless headphones. I'd still take Focal Bathys any day though.

The bass is pumping just right, the treble is crystal clear, and the mids are well balanced. With AirPods Max, sometimes individual instruments are not easily identifiable. Are you finding AirPods Max better?
