The sets are very beautifully made but there is another aesthetic in terms of formalities that is hard to articulate - for instance it is considered bad form/luck to touch other players pieces at any time. There are very many minor social rules surrounding it plus many sort of superstitions and "this is the way things are done" that build a sort of respect for the tiles and the game. It's really not super hard to learn but for my messy and chaotic brain the sense of order and rules is lovely - a great game for people who crave order... It's very calming.
