I feel like every time I open up the FC app the decentralized powers that be are never like "It'd be really great if there were more philosophical discussions” or “it would be great if more people were criticizing the feature and functionality of our approach to financialization” or “it would be great if people were demanding we open source the feed or rewards algorithm so it doesn’t seem like we’re putting our decentralized powers that be thumb on the algo scale and shadow banning accounts that are critical of us or our thumbs.” The FC powers that be are always like, post more sports post more cute animals. post more memes. post more babies. post more food. post more smooth brain thirst traps. they wish people would post more Classic Social Media Content. $CSMC proove me wrong

I feel this too. I get we all have different needs but I almost get this vibe of anti-gloom here or connecting w/ feels, theology, philosophy, etc. like you’re saying. I appreciate the directness of your beautiful words.

thank you for really listening and symphonically hearing this point there are so many truly deep and poetic and artistic thinkers on here like @mrwildenfree @marlo @stephancill and @pichi and @j4ck.eth and @codeofcrypto @newtp and @jabo5779 but i feel like the FC algorithm (especially on the FC native app; feel like the Base feed is already much better, though it’s not open to as many) keeps fighting with us to be more basic to post more digestible simple (less ruminative less philosophical less poetic less artistic) content since i don’t think we can win against the algorithm i feel like we should start deep faking simple content and posting $CSMC that has embedded depth so like a shallow image that’s deep when you magic eye fixate upon it just a thought/ experiment

Thank you for including me! I kind if agree that FC, at least for the leaderboards, has a large emphasis on quantity of posts over deep ruminations. But frankly, I feel like actually talking about how you feel and reflecting on things like you do is exactly what builds the authenticity that is so lacking on the internet, which only serves to create more meaningful connections rather than content optimized to get the most likes. Just my thoughts :)

I know I just made a video just expressing sadness over how AI will be indistinguishable from real videos. We need humanity more than ever

love this!!!! i feel like this conversation definitely belongs here (though the FC feedlords may disagree) nothing could be more consequential than discussing the implications of AI the points you make above fairness and equity don’t get nearly enough airtime AI is literally changing everything about knowledge work creative work and education and i def hear u re environment and water and pollution but the counter is that if AI can figure things our like clean energy and solar energy and clean fusion (just like it figured our protein folding and move 37 in Go) then we can really get cooking with desalination and can turn around so many of the destructive forces ruining our environment i’m not sure what i believe but i do think that the fine and nobel and good people who are trying to scale back global consumption and move toward some sort of energy austerity plan have an uphill struggle against so many forces that have addicted the world to energy consumption i’m not saying it’s not possible just that it’s going to be a lot harder than anyone imagines it’s a bit like making hard core smokers quit smoking it’s certainly enticing to think about some sort of clean energy breakthrough that created plentiful energy that does not require burning fossil fuels i’m not sure how we can understand the probability of that type of outcome i’m open to being persuaded in either direction in any event all the debates about ai belong here in fact when i first realized the impact of Gen AI upon the craft of creativity i put together a framework (that i shared here and on paragraph) that guides my usage of AI and enables the interpretation and evaluation of AI works it’s recently been adopted as a kind of AI content model card or spec for documentation of an AI-executed work’s genesis essentially my sense is that we have to double down on articulation of our inspiration and intention whereas at one point artists and creators could say the work stands on its own and that there’s no need to explain the work of art now in the age of ai-powered creation we need to know the IdeAction behind every work of art this style of writing m-writing is what i’m calling it is a response to AIs colonization of the strunk and white privileged style anyone can write like the new yorker nowadays the key is to write like yourself to try and mirror the movement of your own breath the flurry of your own mind here’s that essay (from two and a half years ago) https://paragraph.com/@marmo/ideaction-an-intraconnected-framework-for-activating-ideation?share=true

I think I’m of the mindset that we need to use it selectively when it will make a good impact. For the love of god, don’t use it to find something that could easily be found with google. Don’t cheat with it. Don’t sell art that rips off other artists (which is inherent, so I’m really saddened by it, despite what people might say on this platform). It’s something that’s clearly so easily within our control to reduce emissions. I would 1000% support any efforts like that to cure disease. Supposedly AI has also made new bioweapons iirc, so yah🫠 but point is, if it’s being used for the good of humanity or even for personal benefit within reason, fine, but if it’s being used carelessly or unnecessarily, then please don’t. I worry most that people will care about climate change and stopping war but don’t bat an eye on using chatgpt for every search function and argue that they need it when these data centers are destroying communities of color and low income communities and rapidly draining aquifers and polluting the air. I don’t expect everyone to be perfect, but I find the cognitive dissonance very interesting and strange for my generation (gen z) that seems to traditionally care about these sorts of issues.
