i was struck by
the moment when
Fred said
he had really
nailed what VC
was all about in a
text he’d just sent to
his friend,
describing it as
“very pithy,
pretty memorable,
and pretty good.”
then
he went into his pocket,
pulled out his phone,
and read:
“Big wins in VC come
from believing before anyone else
and believing after everyone moves on.”
It seemed so simple,
almost like a chorus to a song.
I realized it would make
a beautifully
plosive backronym:
BBAEABAEMO
babe‑ah‑mo
bay‑bah‑mo
And suddenly there it was—
an edenic mythic beach
where you paddle out early,
wait through the lull,
and still catch the second swell
after the crowd heads home.
