should white people be allowed to play jazz?

hehe mostly shitposting… but when they are bad it does truly hurt my soul. if there was just slightly more stigma around it, like with white rappers, i wouldn’t be mad 😅

you think so? i’m not really in the loop but it’s rare that i hear about any. i see all-white jazz combos often though

I think it is partly due to the nascency or rap relative to jazz; both are African-American art forms, but Jazz has existed for roughly 120–130 years, while rap has been around for about 50–55 years

there are definitely a bunch! i still don’t think it’s the same though. over the years i’ve been invited to play in lots of jazz ensembles that were 100% white people, but i don’t see them getting together and starting rap groups to the same extent
