I was going to post this in /warpcast but the new channels system means I can't. So here it is: the new channels system is quite possibly one of the worst designed, exclusionary systems I have ever seen not only on any social platform, but on any platform in all of existence. I am saying this without hyperbole. I've had the pleasure of getting to work on & with a lot of social platforms through my time in enterprise dev, before going full degen in the crypto world. I've seen a lot of bad systems, but honestly, this one is just.. really out there. Exclusionary-by-default is not how to grow a young social network. And don't come at me with the "just use a different client" shtick. It's natural to get attached to a client/platform you've used for months, and feel dismay when there's a pattern of changes being made which detract from the whole reason you fell in love with it. I can't even imagine the thought process behind this one. It is absolutely baffling. Feels like a ghost town since it was implemented.

Isn’t discord and telegram exclusionary by default? I see these changes as making Warpcast more of an onchain communication channel than a social network.

I wouldn't say so at all, no - on telegram and discord alike, you can just join any channel or server by default. For someone to make them private/invite-only, they have to deliberately set that - and those who do, can't get access to shorturls or the likes. They also don't get surfaced by any discovery protocols.

Right, but you can do that here too if the channel owners wants it that way. Just include the invite link in the call to action.

But there's no CTA on Discord/Telegram? Individual platforms ala topGG can just crawl and list any platform. Or any user can just fire on a general link without needing it attached to an "invite". And both those platforms are gigantic; natural and organic reach extends far beyond the applications themselves. We're still a very small network compared to industry behemoths like them - the best reach we have is still internal, via the network itself. Adding opt-out gatekeeping & hard paywall mechanisms this early in our lifecycle can't really be compared with where TG and Discord are at.

I’m certainly not a power user of either platform but I feel like I’ve always had to search for an invite link to join a discord channel or telegram channel. (Usually only for support of some kind) There probably are easier ways to do it but I’ve just never discovered them in my relatively light use for both platforms. I know they are much larger and have more leeway to do things like that, but haven’t they always had this model?
