You can look at this topic from 2 perspectives. I have this lens as a daughter of first gen immigrants.
1) The Western perspective that rewards the individual, autonomy, and freedom: bank account(s), living alone normalized, moving away from nuclear family, child rearing is a different geo region bc of 1 singular job, etc.
2) Non-Western perspective (Eastern and non-Christians etc.) emphasize on the collective harmony, familial ties, and societal obligations: generational homes, saving/moving until you were married, family accounts (shared), raising kids in or near hometown/community, etc.
#1 has grown parallel with rise of conservative politics, capitalism, and Christianity esp with social media. It’s why I made the original statement. 0 reply
