Lend the money like it’s already gone. Expectations lead to disappointment, and disappointment can damage relationships. So only give what your heart can afford to lose. If it’s more than that, say no—with kindness, but with firmness. But here’s a truth we often overlook: People rarely ask for all they truly need. They may say $100, but need far more than they can admit. So sometimes, think this way— “If they ask for $100, give them $1,000.” You didn’t lose money. You gained a chance to see who they really are. And that shift in perspective— might just shape you into someone deeper and wiser.
