I started playing ice hockey just 3 years ago β very late in life, inspired by seeing my son play. I immediately fell in love with the game, the energy, the way it challenges all senses, the fast pace, but also the community. Being the only woman in my mixed level league team, I am always pushing for equal treatment ~ like in this case where the D just eases off completely, letting me having the run toward the goalβ¦ Despite me celebrating a win, I am fighting for a fair game π

I've been playing for a long time. When you play in mixed level games, the better players make room for less developed players to participate and score. It's kind of an unwritten practice. That was a nice shot regardless!

My understanding was that higher level players on your team help create plays for you, which my team has been really good at, but being treated with white gloves by an opposing team stops the flow of the game, is confusing (when everyone all the sudden stops moving) and doesnβt help my game, if that makes sense.
