First Draft Club

Today is Day One at my new job – the first time I’ve had full-time employment in 22 months. This past chapter was a mix of contracting, freelancing, bootstrapping, tinkering, advising, and general exploring.

It is true that not all who wander are lost, but at many times throughout this period, I felt that way. After being laid off in June 2023, just six months into my job, I needed a break from corporate life and felt destined to explore more independent paths. The past two years have been stimulating yet professionally isolating, full of possibilities but devoid of structure. I’m excited about the new constraints I’ve chosen for myself.

Excited for you! Totally understand the feeling as well. Worked 16 years full-time and then went freelance. At the moment this set-up works for me however. Love the flexibility, especially as a mom, and with the right gig and set-up it can work beautifully. But a salaried employment has its perks - quite literally.
