I wonder if that view is becoming more common because of a misunderstanding of what stoicism is? 

Rather than the emphasis on virtuous actions resulting in stable happiness, which is the core of stoicism, we've developed the view that it means emotions aren't meaningful.

no its not like that at all

some of the core ideas of stocism revolve around things having meaning, for example living according to nature and all that jazz. i dont think this always makes sense

basically, stoicis are determinists and i dont rly vibe with that. if it works for u great but imo its counterproductive
