Born and raised in America and grew up in a town that was 98%+ white. Everyone had straight hair, maybe a few girls had a little wave but i remember being soo self conscious of my hair and as soon as i was old enough to use hair tools i straightening it every day. It wasn't until junior year of high school i really started to even acknowledge I had curls. Now I wear my hair natural pretty much every day but I will style occasionally for an event or special occasions

omg so relatable, it breaks my heart to think that as little girls we had to do all of this to our hair in order to feel β€œpretty”. i remember i lived in manila and my hair was short and so huge with humidity, and at school id put water on it during breaks so it would get flat. i was 7 yo … i still straighten my hair a lot but much less then i used to before
