https://www.noahpinion.blog/p/the-ukraine-war-is-ultimately-about This is historically and geopolitically accurate. Haven't read many essays by Americans who get it so well.

I think the Ukraine war is ultimately about the incompetence of our institutions. Drawing wild conclusions like it's about "Poland" or whatever happened 4 billion years ago is just all smoke and mirrors. What is factually true is that the unelected officials calling the shots do not have our best interest in mind.

I respect your perspective on this Mac and I agree Putins goal is sphere of dominance, which Noah explained well But I didnβt like this piece and thought Noah exhibited many misunderstandings, but nonetheless argued the correct point His interview with Sarah Paine is also good

As a Russian who understands Putin's point of view, I can tell that we don't think about Poland that much, and neither is he. The war in Ukraine is about Ukraine. Russia is like an abusive boyfriend who can't let his darling go.

Poland shares a lot of history with Ukraine and nobody knows how would the history turn out if Poland would honour the agreement between Pilsudski and Petlura. When Poland abandoned Ukraine, Ukraine got hit first. 20 years later, Poland was wiped off the map.

Putin should feel insecure; he is failiing his country and his people. I'll say America could have done better post cold-war to embrace Russia (like we embraced Europe post WWII), but it's now on him. Putin is emptying his coffers and emptying his future by killing his youth.
