Yeah those (ideology and policy) are essentially synonymous to me. 

Agreed on integrity. I add a few other I-words (intelligence, etc). 

The Office of the President matters most when the country is in unforeseen circumstances, which is also when policy typically takes a backseat.

interesting take on why policy/ideology isn't the only thing that matters in a candidate

For President, I vote for who I believe is the best leader. If it hits the fan, who do I want captaining the ship.

For legislators, I think more about ideology and policy.
