'Pictures at an Exhibition' by Modest Mussorgsky is a piece of music that follows a visitor walking through an art gallery, with each section inspired by a painting from his late friend, Viktor Harmann. A simple theme returns throughout to show the listener moving from one picture to the next. The music brings each scene to life, from odd little creatures to quiet streets to towering architecture, ending with a bold final piece that feels like standing before a massive, awe-inspiring gate. The work was originally written as a piano suite in 1874 but the version often heard today is the brilliant 1922 orchestral arrangement by Maurice Ravel. https://youtu.be/uGaNsJHqnH4?si=ugB5DODvvngs-GxW
