Your teabag takes the heavy metals out of the water it’s brewed in, if there are any present. (Just don’t use a plastic teabag and put plastic back in at the same time) https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/02/250224155116.htm

Dang. I would leave the bag in while I drink since I thought I was getting "more tea" out of the bag.

I used to do this too until I realized more often than not I was burning the tea! Now I steep it in as long as listed on the bags, usually 30-120 seconds, set it aside, then once I drink the tea I'll pour myself a second cup and place the the teabag again. Tastes way better this way!

Yup, especially green tea! Burning might be the wrong word but if the water is a high enough temperature it can quickly degrade the quality of the leaves and instead give them a bitter taste
