GOP Sen. Rand Paul voted with Democrats to advance the resolution. Democratic Sen. John Fetterman voted against it. Friday’s vote was a notable departure from a similar war powers vote in 2020 related to Iran, in which eight Republicans voted with Democrats, seven of whom are still in the Senate. Across the Capitol: The House could bring up its own Democrat-led war powers resolution after July 4. Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, who has faced heavy backlash from the administration for criticizing the strikes on Iran, had also introduced a war powers resolution as well, but ultimately decided not to bring it up amid a ceasefire in the Iran-Israel conflict. House Speaker Mike Johnson has sharply criticized members for demanding Trump receive congressional approval for strikes on Iran, adding that he doesn’t believe the War Powers Act is constitutional.

this New York Magazine article is a remarkable exploration of how the international community’s expectations from the laws of war are changing. i have moralistic opinions on what i believe to be international law breaches, but those opinions are not the point of this cast. taking a step back, today i am thinking about what human values are losing hold with this war, and what that says about how future wars might be fought. i understand humanitarian law can go out of fashion whether i want it or not. absolute power tends to tell the story it wants (because dead people cannot). https://youtu.be/e8rXTpVQLnw

The United States has taken advantage of freedom of speech to the extreme, using it to discredit regimes in various countries that do not obey its orders, inciting people who are ignorant of the truth to take to the streets, disrupting society, and taking advantage of the situation to seize power. It has been successful in countries such as Ukraine and Libya, but not in Hong Kong and Serbia.

“Free speech is essential. But so are truth, transparency, and public accountability. Without them, freedom of expression becomes a weapon of manipulation rather than a tool for liberation.” https://balticsentinel.eu/8276523/pekka-kallioniemi-the-hypocrisy-of-trump-s-free-speech-crusade-against-europe

Trusting Netanyahu and Trump is stupid. This is a great summary, but when a poor student makes a bad decision, we can only watch, after all, it is someone else's business, and this person is also very conceited, why bother?

Agree “At this point, the default assumption must be that any ceasefire is another ploy by the U.S. and Israel to seduce Iran into lowering its guard so they can assassinate Khamenei and attempt their long term stated goal of regime change. It would be foolish, to put it mildly, to trust Netanyahu and Trump.” https://x.com/dancohen3000/status/1937321369261474029?s=46&t=ttgfuAdb8lkzjrABw_5fng

Israel’s emergency services said three people were killed after a missile struck a residential building in the southern Israel city of Beer Sheva. The emergency service Magen David Adom (MDA) said earlier a man around 40 years old, a woman about 30 years old and a man around 20 years old were critically wounded. Six other people were being treated with light to moderate injuries, an MDA spokesperson said. The Israel Defense Forces said it identified missiles launched from Iran toward Israel and instructed residents to enter bomb shelters.

It seems that Iran is really hopeless. As a result, everyone will stay away from it. Maybe Iran has reasons to compromise. Russia, China, and Pakistan should all be a little disappointed.

Is anyone surprised that be ceasefire was broken? Wasn’t there a moment where Iran like softballed some attacks at the US? Isn’t the issue more so who’s going to come to Irans defense instead of what Iran will do? I suppose Russia could, even though that would be straining their military, which is still attacking Ukraine. I guess we will see.

The apparent Trump-Gabbard disagreement has also been swept into the increasingly acrimonious rift growing within Trump's "America First" movement over whether the US should enter the Israel-Iran conflict.
