got nerd sniped by zk stuff, but really feel like im only scratching the surface. there's so much to learn. why isn't zk a bigger deal? Seems like this subcategory of crypto has the brightest talent + will be most important long term (post-ai domination).

i think it's hard for regular ppl, incl. cryptonatives, to grok what kind of new applications/use cases it enables so for most ppl it's cool technically but the implications are less clear

tornado cash and semaphore were cool besides that it’s a thing that folks nerd out for that an end user should frankly never think or care about except for the tagline, onchain privacy unfortunately the tail wagged the do and most folks got nerdsniped it’ll have its day in the sun

I’m not technical so maybe this is just a redacted take. But I find ZK soooo hard to conceptualize and explain to others. It’s maybe the most “magical” tech ive ever come across. Trying to tell someone how an app can prove that you’re who you are without actually accessing any of your relevant data just makes heads spin

In what way are you imagining ZKs being helpful for a post-AI world specifically? Like for surveillance and governance?

public key cryptography is a big deal too but we don’t think about it much. if people can see the lock icon on the browser they know the connection is secure hence okay to put in credit cards etc.

The developer experience has improved a lot but it still asks a lot from the dev: - The programming paradigm is fundamentally different. - There is a lot of jargon involved when working with this stuff. - Learning resources are scattered around many places. - zkDSLs still expose a lot of the underlying complexity to devs

Selling privacy is hard, it's cool but lacks incentives. Kind of like working in hard core cryptography or doing pure math

I seriously believe that most of those in the crypto space right now care about profits in the here and now. There are a lot of flippers/traders here, but few investors. That's part of the problems that come with popularizing technology, but that's the way it is. Understand the memes != understand the technology. Time will put a lot of things in place

Maybe people who hold tokens will say that, including me.
