Would the country you live in be better off if you could choose where your tax dollars go? You get taxed the same, but you now have choice. Would the natural competition make this better or worse?

I’ve always been a fan of trying this idea. I think people would feel a greater sense of connection to the public goods they support. X would always be needed for roads, infrastructure, education, healthcare etc but then the rest could be sent to local, provincial and country wide programs that you choose

Yeah this is my thought but I always assume there are counter points that are valid. Trying to flesh out what those might be? Maybe some things people care less about but are still critical..?

infrastructure wise (roads, sewage, hydro etc) there should be an amount deducted for those boring but necessary for all things. I’m sure there are good counter points though. My take is our current tax and democratic system were not designed for the world we live in - we need more options that empower people
