Hi Parents! Really curious to hear everyone‘s guidelines and rules for screentime / video games for ages 11-13 year olds? For example: 1. How many hours per day? 2. Do you allow them to be on Social Media or watch Youtube influencers? In our household my son is welcome to watch 2 episodes of German children’s shows during school days and during NHL Stanley Cup playoff season: Game highlights. Friday-Sunday we allow him to add 1 hr of X Box play and a movie.

the struggle. know it only too well. mine are now past the age where i can attempt to say anything, but i think the most important thing is to educate them. sound like an old auntie that i am. i had to say no playstation during the week and only on fri and sat as my son was going way too much on it. mind you this was slightly going out of the window covid when we were all locked up pretty badly. trust your judgement. every kid is different. and that is how they communicate these days. i think what they are watching/ playing is actually more important than the duration. some quite nasty stuff out there disguised as kids stuff. and on playstation/ xbox - make sure they don't communicate with strangers. ik stating the obvious but you'd be surprised. may the force be with you. x

You‘re absolutely right! It‘s really more about the quality of content and I had a wake-up call when he started communicating with someone playing Rec room asking him about his sexual orientation…Needless to say that app is gone, but it does bring up an important point: We are lucky because so far he has been super open with us about everything and a good sense of things that appear unusual or a bit off. That is exactly what we are trying to cultivate: critical thinking.
