i've been working *a lot* on regulating my nervous system for the past 8 weeks i was having several panic attacks a day + waking up a ton throughout the night + night sweats + unable to sleep in past 6:30 no matter what time i went to bed the past two days my body has finally let me sleep in (8:30 and 9!!), which means my cortisol is no longer spiking unnecessarily overnight and my parasympathetic nervous system is starting to retake dominance (rest and digest vs fight or flight mode) big signal that all my regulation work is finally working 🥳 ✨

there are tons of ways! really any activities that make you feel safe from a survival standpoint or are calm/soothing > breathing exercises / meditation > somatic and movement therapy (dancing, thai chi, stretching, yoga, massage, shaking) > progressive muscle relaxation > humming or singing > laying on the ground > eating warm, soft foods (mashed potatoes, rice, porridge, oatmeal, soup) > bilateral stimulation (basis of EMDR therapy) > sensory activities like playing with slime or play dough and sometimes you need to shock your system to reset it which is what a lot of people are doing with cold exposure/ice baths
