Oh hell yeah there’s an Urbit long read thanks for putting me on @clone https://www.compactmag.com/article/the-rise-and-fall-of-urbit/ It’s giving me the impression that the whole project was unserious and ran by socialites Which I think I knew subconsciously but didn’t want to admit

I don’t think more decentralization would have produced a better outcome. The problem was too much Philosopher, not enough King.

wasn’t so much so socialites at the core as much as it was what @horsefacts.eth said — a lot giga-nerds enamored with a Grand Unified Theory of the Future of Computing that, even when it was working decently well, did not actually provide a meaningfully differentiated experience for end users because the value proposition is so esoteric

To me, the biggest failure of Urbit is it's godawful UI/UX. Every time I try to get back into Urbit, I just become endlessly confused as to how it works and how to even use it. This is something Farcaster managed to figure out, which is why I've stuck around.

I have a planet floating around somewhere, @1ofthemanymatts sent it to me on Twitter ages ago At the time it felt novel? But that faded quickly. Somewhere behind the bauhaus UI and Hoon is the Jurassic Park meme of Jeff Goldbloom looking at a pile of dinosaur shit.
