My mom did Meals on Wheels today and told me about one of her clients When she was young she suffered from bad acne What did they do back then? THEY BLASTED HER FACE WITH RADIATION 😭 Later in life perhaps predictably suffered consequences from that The past is a foreign country https://www.jaad.org/article/S0190-9622(15)00238-8/abstract

Exactly, the 70s/80s were a center of a lot of unfounded information and unbridled use of things without even research on, here in Brazil there was a very bizarre culture especially in coastal cities, people using different types of different products to create a perfect tan, from engine oil to craziest things you cant even imagine

People were without control, my mom speaks a lot about seeing at the time people testing everything, because there was an aesthetic pressure on the “perfect tan” This is a resume from google ai “The tanning culture in Brazil in the 1980s was marked by the search for the “perfect bronze”, with practices that we now know are harmful to health. The use of substances such as Coca-Cola and vegetable oils, and techniques such as the application of paraffin and coarse salt, were common, but caused burns, irritation and other skin problems. The popularization of artificial tanning also occurred during this period, although with already known risks, such as the increased risk of skin cancer.”
