No you want what you want. I feel like you could do it maybe with the right plant. I feel confident with clever engineering the hardware getting wrecked would be a non issue but I would worry about overall usability 😂

but I’d want them to be real plants, not artificial plastic ones and then the plant bits would get under all the buttons and inside the hardware and then it wouldn’t work nicely or it would require cleaning it all the time. Am I over thinking this?
