I mean, the idea of love marriage or soulmates is so modern. It’s a new idea. Love is a rebranding of traditional economic/social alliances. We want the feeling of autonomy and romance while still obeying market logic. When people say they want love, underneath they really are most often saying “I want love within a narrow band of acceptable options”

I can definitely see status games around marriage. Unite the houses, cement the alliance type stuff.

But you don’t think two people can be mutually infatuated to the point of obsession? Even if it’s short lived? What about love for a child?
