The problem with a surveillance panopticon is that, in addition to enforcing the laws and social norms that you approve of, it will also enforce the laws and social norms that you might not like so much.

Do you want to smoke weed in a state where it's illegal? Not an option anymore.

Do you need to travel out of state to get an abortion because your state  outlawed abortions with no exceptions? Now your state  will be able to find out where you went and prosecute you and whoever drove you there.

Do you have friends with criminal records or unpopular political ideologies? Your state knows about it now, and you'll probably be scrutinized for associating with the wrong people.

I don't agree with Cassie's claim that more people having guns will make anyone safer, but I know total surveillance isn't the answer.

We deserve this and honestly I’m glad if he’s actually building it and not just talking about it. People barely even obey red lights anymore. We have lost our sense of obligation to one another and so this is what we get. I will happily lose my privacy so I don’t have to walk around like a scared little rat with pepper spray.
