Hmmm my mom told me I could go live in the remote woods with my recently widowed family member. Hmm hmm hmmm How insane am I going to go here? Shall I go be a Little Edie in the forest for a month? Not like there’s much better going on πŸ˜‚

re: living remotely have you read Kerouac's Desolation Angels? I found it a useful counterbalance to Thoreau's Walden

Art I mean consider the context Crusoe is fantasy Thoreau was alone but also supported by community. Lived on his bros property. Close to town. Semi artificial retreat Kerouac i learned went into the woods truly alone and was already dealing with alcoholism and spiritual crisis at onset of his solitude. It amplified all his issues

fwiw I’ve been in woods mode a lot over the last decade or two…. my own rule wrt going crazy is something like: 2-3 days without going anywhere perfect… more than that watch out… flip side about the same: after 2-3 days of going out every day (into town, whatever), a couple days at home without going anywhere feels luxurious. DYOR lol
