08-24-2024 š¤ We know that AI is going to affect jobs and the economy. Thereās going to be second order effects that people havenāt fully realized yet. For example, itās pretty recognized that truck drivers will be out of work soon with autonomous vehicles. However, what people havenāt considered is how this will affect other jobs surrounding truck drivers like rest stops and motels. Those workers will also lose their jobs and need to be reskilled. In the Midwest there are whole communities built around these rest stops and they will need to be reoriented. These knock on effects havenāt been measured as far as I know.

How did old mining towns change when mining stopped? That would give some a clues on what worked where

The old mining towns died out as ghost towns š¢ so not the most optimistic
