Today’s race went through a military training zone. I jogged passed training grounds, old military prison and saw my city from different perspective. Every time I see the lighthouse, I know I was there. I set out with two rules: never walk more than 20 paces if it’s flat or downhill. Proud that I mostly stuck to it. Time was less good than last year. My friend injured herself last week and couldn’t join. She’s the one creating speed during downhills.

What stuck was that one point where those slow racers doing the 23km meet those doing the 13km. At that point I was running already 16km, exhausted listening to how tired the others were, thinking “you have no idea…” 2/3 through the race I was looking forward to swimming at the end. Getting the sweat off as soon as possible.

running alone is less fun than with others, especially when you don’t have average speed and are running in the pack. But I finished it. I didn’t give up. I motivated myself to jog instead of walking. No matter how slow to keep going. Gonna take that with me.
