When I lived in Watertown MA they just automatically opted everybody into a plan that defaulted to local renewable sources and the rate went way up, you had to manually switch your plan back just to get the cheaper source mix (which was already extremely high)

Hasn’t been great as a rate payer. Think rates here spiked to $24-$25 this last winter, combined with actual winter weather for the first time in years > $$$ We use eversource, per therm delivered price was 30 percent higher this Jan v Jan 2024 They have since reduced $ going to mass save to reduce prices a bit over next few years. https://www.mass.gov/news/dpu-reduces-mass-save-plan-by-500-million-and-approves-proposals-to-reduce-residential-gas-bills

It can get ridiculous during peak winter months too. I’m surprised by the spike right now.
