Thanks for everyone’s optimism! I can report that 4 sadly perished πŸͺ¦ (dried out to the point of no return) but some like this monstera are now on life support and showing healthy signs of growth! Seeking tips for keeping plants alive while you’re away πŸ™ how does everyone do it?

Move plants away from direct sunlight and hot areas to reduce water loss. Group plants together to create a humid microclimate. https://www.patchplants.com/gb/en/read/plant-care/how-to-keep-your-plants-alive-when-you-go-on-holiday?utm_source=perplexity

These waterbottle things that slowly release water. Can use jumbo water bottles and the water is slowly released as the plants need it.

Noooooooooo!!!! Sorry to hear that Karmen, sheesh. I think the Monstera will be fine. Deffo keep them out of strong sun while you're away. Before we go on trips a week or more, we'll give them a sit bath in water to fully saturate the pots. You can also put them into a larger tray (like 10-20 smol plants in a big tray), and ask someone to water the entire tray every few days so there's a few cm of water at the bottom. Drip bottles work well too, as does the "water wick" (google it--but more annoying to setup).

I usually don't leave my plans alone for longer than a week. Honestly drying out doesn't mean no return, cuz the roots might still be able to produce new shoots. Had that approved severl times. When I see a dried out plant i take it off of the soil and put into a jar/glass with a little bit of water so that only roots touch the water, then some of them revive and rise like a phoenix in couple weeks time.

I've adopted a "survival of the fittest" mentality - if it dies, then it's not meant to be πŸ˜… I also like the idea that we all have a specific way we care for plants that kind of reflects our personality - some people like to water them constantly, others forget to do it for weeks. So the plants that also enjoy this behaviour will stay, and others will perish. That's how I ended up with mostly succulents, because they like not being watered πŸ˜†
