It depends entirely on the operation of the bridges.
Many of the bridges in the ecosystem rely on liquidity reserves held by the bridge as insurance against re-orgs β there are many cases where the bridge does not fully run "on chain", because overridden state due to reorgs can break the understanding of what is actually bridged. A reorg essentially permits a double spend if the bridge is "optimistic", I.E. does not wait for finality on both sides. Because for Base, true finality is not reached until seven days, that would make bridges an awful experience. So the true L1 at the very least would never be Base, not that it ever purported to be an L1. For Solana and Ethereum, the "true" L1 is both of them. Regardless of whatever implication toly is making by suggesting where the majority of the coins live is the source of truth, the reality is social consensus overrules this, and has previously, in the case of Eth Classic. While that wasn't a bridge event, it certainly did alter which of the two forks was "true".
All of this is to say, consider the bias of the stated opinion, the entire premise may be unsound. 0 reply
