There seems to be a resurgence of philosophy in science recently. Some of the most interesting scientists in this area seem to have a background in philosophy. 

Seems like it's because in the area of AI we are really exploring how we come to know things, what knowledge is and how it impacts all of science.  The objective view is ebbing as we recognize that everything objective starts in the subjective, and 

The subjective view is under deep exploration right now as we get closer to artificial consciousness. Jennan Ismael is a prime example. Great discussion.
