Story time, so a replacement mobo compatible with my now prior-gen parts was ~$200 + long shipping time.
Out of frustration, my initial reaction was “ugh this planned obsolescence stuff is such a scam” but in reality, i treated my computer like crap, often 300 tabs open and left it on for weeks at a time.
I ended up getting a new PC since faster shipping, future-proof, and not that much more expensive. Turning an annoying expense into a fun investment 😃
The fact that you can get nvidia 1080s for like $150 8 years after they were gold standard $900 is a prime example of why the tech industry is goated. With $1100 you can build you a pretty good PC that dookies on the 1080.
This experience helped me better understand the irrational thought patterns that attract NYC midwits to Marxism. “Ahh everything is moving so fast, i cant keep up! Let’s just slow things down and make sure everyone has an equal share of today’s assets, instead of letting tomorrow’s peasants live like today’s kings.
The marxist mind cannot comprehend how the incentive to deliver the marginal improvent or cost reduction has virtually eliminated abject poverty in the west. They are too busy shitting bricks over Bezos’ net worth to get excited that inaccessible frontier tech will be widely available in a few years, even for unskilled labor like themselves.
Congratulations to midwitville, USA on your new mayor, you must be very proud to be American! Ty for coming to my ted talk don’t tread on me 🐍 1 reply
