I am truly saddened sometimes when I hear the new music coming out these days and compare it to the hits of my childhood. I say sad because kids wont grow up to appreciate a good "unplugged" album(Alice in Chains, Korn), a symphony/rock remake(Metallica), or music that tells a story that's not related to toilets. Yes yes yes I get it, brainrot is the next gen rizz, but I reject the generation of music it came with. I have heard so little inspired music come out in recent years, my playlist is starting to look like an oldies station.

While I can understand your point, I’d argue you’re chasing nostalgia more than anything. Sure maybe comparing hits of today vs hits of back then there’s a lot that’s changed, a lot more pop and hip-hop. I’d say there’s more bands today covering more sounds then ever. Especially in Rock genres. It’s never been easier to find a band you like bc there’s so many options..though it may require some searching.

I am talking about mainstream music. Off course you can find something you like if you search, but that's not what influences the times nor is it what the majority of listeners will vibe with. Sure there are more option, but listeners have narrower attention spans. I see it in my kids, and that's with me trying to influence them into better taste. This is about art, and having real meaning in music not nostalgia. If wanting more for the next generation in music is nostalgic then we are truly lost.

Also I would say my point is actually exaggerated if we are talking strictly hip-hop and rap. In the words of NAS: Hip-Hop is dead. I leave out the feud between Eminem and MGK tho, that was fire.
