The story behind this song ended in March 2024, when I sold my Autoglyph and used the $1.1 million proceeds to pay my tax bill. The day after I paid, I began writing the song. I've worked on it on & off for the past year and a half. Originally, this wasn't going to be Song #6000, but as the song and video evolved, I started to feel the message was one I wanted to amplify with the hoopla of this milestone. Something not everyone will notice: Almost every scene references a music video from the 80s or 90s (I’d love for someone in the comments to see if they can call out every single one with a timestamp). Each reference has personal meaning—these are the videos I watched from childhood through my teenage years. They all contributed, in one way or another, to my dream of becoming a musician.

Why use them? As a young teenager, I believed that getting a music video on MTV was how you knew you'd "made it." Fast forward to 2022, when I made $3 million. For a moment, I felt like I had "made it." But even before the tax nightmare began, I remember thinking, "Now what?" The music video—and specifically its near-obsolescence as a medium (especially as an MTV-based medium)—serves as a reminder that there's no such thing as "making it." Rather, I am "making it" every single day I sit down to write my song. I hope you enjoy the song and the story!
