I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that kindness and respect are essential in any conversation, especially political ones. It’s true that we often shut people out instead of trying to understand where they’re coming from, which doesn’t help bridge divides.
At the same time, who someone supports politically can reflect values that deeply impact others, especially marginalized communities. So for some, it’s not just a difference of opinion, but a matter of safety, dignity, and lived experience.
Kindness doesn’t mean silence, and respect doesn’t mean agreement. We can disagree strongly, even passionately, without dehumanizing each other but it’s also okay to set boundaries when certain values clash.
I still can’t bring myself to forgive those who voted for the current president of my country, because now I felt like I’m suffering for what I know nothing about, still doesn’t mean I hate them. But there’s boundary. 1 reply
