four excellent days in Londinium this was my 3rd trip to London, my most enjoyable visit, and the one i learned the most about its history back to the New World tomorrow

we walked the Roman Wall from the Barbican toward St. Paul’s, which is the second picture, which caused me to dive into the Roman history i knew roughly that the Romans were around but didn’t realized they *started* London and built it where they did bc of the shortest distance across the Thames (which got its name from the local proto-celtic “tamēssa” meaning “dark” which turned into “Tamesis” then “Thames” - it’s very muddy) also that the Romans were here until 420 AD or so before leaving London abandoned, and the piece of wall in the pic was only revealed due to WW2 bombs so diving into this older history was very enjoyable also paired with the Westminster Abbey tour, which is half as old as the Roman settlement :) HISTORY
