Iāve been a dau on Farcaster for over 2 years. Before this, I was completely oblivious to the blockchain and decentralized social media. Long had I been disenfranchised by traditional social media to the point where I hadnāt logged into any of them for years. It was a simple Coinbase quest that got me here. The airdrops did keep me around at first, but they eventually dwindled and went away. Iāve come to realize that Iām here because of the people and the fascinating things they were/are working on. Truly though, I was a total noob. I tried to do that whole Satoshiās Secret thing where you had to answer 10 increasingly difficult questions. It took hours of research for me to even understand the questions and hours more for me to be able to answer some of them. Back then, Internet money was flying everywhere on Farcaster and it was dizzying. I was dazed at my increasing wallet balance for doing pretty much nothing. Except I was doing something - I was meeting new people and learning every day as Farcaster just keep iterating and getting better. I had to ask @nounishprof what a DAO was at FarCon in Venice. She laughed and then realized I was serious. Thatās how much of a noob I was. 𤣠I joined every channel when they were first introduced. I tipped warps. I was also one of the very fortunate people who received the initial $HIGHER allocation. My allocation was valued in the hundreds right away over the next several days, it was valued in the thousands. By sometime in March 2024, that initial HIGHER allocation was worth tens of thousands of dollars. I still remember opening my wallet and seeing my higher alloc valued at $74,000+. This was my first genuine moonshot before I even knew what that was or meant. This was an aberration of the highest magnitude, to the likes Iāve never seen in my life. I showed my wife and she didnāt believe me. She called it fake internet money. Well, shockingly, I actually took some profits by swapping $10,000 for ETH. This was used to support devs buidling on Farcaster. At the time, @corbin.eth was buidling King of the Degens and I was very happy to support this. Over the years, Iāve supported many other projects on Farcaster and plan to continue doing so through /betr š
My wife and I are turning into our parents which for us means weāre getting older. Sheās going down kicking and screaming, but itās seemingly inevitable. Very reluctantly, sheās coming to the quiet albeit unsettling realization that the perfect 20/20 vision sheās enjoyed for years is no longer her reality. Weāre both forgetting things more often. Suddenly, smelling like Tiger balm at night is not entirely unwelcome. Itās getting more and more difficult to refute that weāre getting older and weāre grieving the loss. Of those 5 stages of grief, I think we oscillate among all of them depending on what the present thing is that weāre grieving. Perhaps eventually, it will all come full circle and weāll accept it fully with the remorse so far in the background that like so many things, it will fade from memory. Until then, we will rage against the dying of youthās light. š
I have been irrevocably changed by Hollywood and couldnāt be the happier for it. Before āMay the 4th Be With Youā became a thing that some would celebrate, I was a Star Wars fan. I was too young to see Lucasās original trilogy in the theaters, but I saw them on TV afterwards and rented the VHS tapes from Blockbuster over and over again. A generation of teenage boys fell in love with Carrie Fisher after seeing her in the 1983 Return of the Jedi movie as āSlave Leiaā. The very next year, James Cameronās Terminator movie would come out. The year after that, two teenage boys would hack into a government mainframe and create Lisa in the movie, Weird Science. The Revenge of the Nerds movies would later characterize those who transitioned early to the brave new world of PCs as āgeeksā. However, I knew even back then that my idiosyncratic penchant toward emerging technologies would gain steam and that proverbial train would start carrying more and more of us into the future. My professional career has been a joyride since my formative years and in some small part, I have the movies to thank for it. So, it shouldnāt be surprising that on Star Wars Day, I will respond to all āMay the 4th Be With Yousā with the expected response āAnd Also With You.ā š On my desk at work today:
My mom was one of the smartest people I know. She passed some time ago. School always came very easily for her. She scored a 1597 on her SAT. She received her degrees from prestigious universities, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, and got her doctorate in Psychology. Her primary focus was on abused children and mothers. When my siblings and I were growing up, the dolls weād had were anatomically correct so they could be used in her practice to help children and their moms through their trauma. It helped the little kids to communicate where they were touched. Most were low income and couldnāt afford the sessions. My mom helped them anyway in many untold acts of altruism. I was a teenager at the time and was horrified at how young the boys and girls were. Of the seemingly countless disturbing things in this world, sexual abuse of children has got to rank up there as some of the most heinous acts a human can do to another human.
