My wife and I are turning into our parents which for us means we’re getting older. She’s going down kicking and screaming, but it’s seemingly inevitable. Very reluctantly, she’s coming to the quiet albeit unsettling realization that the perfect 20/20 vision she’s enjoyed for years is no longer her reality. We’re both forgetting things more often. Suddenly, smelling like Tiger balm at night is not entirely unwelcome. It’s getting more and more difficult to refute that we’re getting older and we’re grieving the loss. Of those 5 stages of grief, I think we oscillate among all of them depending on what the present thing is that we’re grieving. Perhaps eventually, it will all come full circle and we’ll accept it fully with the remorse so far in the background that like so many things, it will fade from memory. Until then, we will rage against the dying of youth’s light. 😂
