many years ago, before having kids, i spent over a year in vietnam (hcmc) and recall thinking it crazy how most people zipped around on motorbikes, 50 to 150cc, in heavy traffic, with up to as many as 4-5 passengers (families across 2-3 generations!) onboard, mainly due to being more practical and cheap despite being clearly dangerous and so the karmic irony is not lost on me that i now regularly ride around /paris on an electric cargo bike, shuttling my kids to and from their various extracurricular activities amongst the many many bad drivers on the roads here...

Karma has a way of simultaneously validating and invalidating everything you’ve ever thought you knew. This is why I think the older we get, the more we acknowledge the perspectives we’ve missed when we were younger or that we never truly understood…and still don’t. The difference is that, and perhaps this is what some call wisdom, we’re okay with it. With not knowing. With our own limitations. And, if we’re lucky, we’re less likely to pass judgement on others as they fall on one side or the other of any given subject/topic. And if we’re really lucky, maybe this creates an incentive to learn more and see from others’ points of view. If we can collectively keep an open mind about literally everything, unclouded by bias, we might actually see eye-to-eye on the things that divide us and maybe these recognized differences become the ties that keep us together rather than the battle lines that separate us. Maybe.

it's most funny to me how these bikes are all the rage here now among posh parents, but we've developed pretty much all the same "bad" habits as the moto drivers in SEA 😂
