If you’re building something meaningful, ask your co-founder / teammate to work with you on a weekend, even if it’s just once, and even if you don’t technically need the extra time. It’s a great litmus test. It reveals their values and character. Do they show up with energy, or with reluctance? Are they in it with you, or just along for the ride? The way they respond will tell you more than words ever could.

This definitely is what will ultimately separate the teams that survive in the long run, not working incessantly at the expense of their collective lives, but a relentless commitment to seeing a vision become real and sustainable. That said, I also always caution using this as a litmus test, per se, as so many factors in life make some arrangements hard to manage.

Great advice that many would overlook until you are a co-founder

Even better if you can do a hackathon with them. It’s like speed-running a cofounder relationship and is an excellent way to tell if they are good long-term partners.
