Total failure of civics.  

No one cares about politics anymore.

Dude. Every day I want to opt out. 

I think that’s a large reason why people don’t follow politics. They know it’s cooked. 

Also, the saying “you can’t talk about politics” kills me. Like, we can’t talk about the laws that make up society?

to play the devils advocate here, what good has caring about politics done any american recently? our politicians largely ignore us and lie to us and break ethics laws and only accomplish about 10% of what they promise, i think it's really clear to everyone on both sides that our representatives are hardly ever acting in our interests, and the best case scenario for most people, in terms of immediate local side effects of political action, is that you get deeply convicted on some partisan topics, feel some kind of moral superiority, and wind up fighting with your friends and family

i consider myself civil-minded and politically informed, but opting out seems like self care honestly

Unless you are a politician or a corporate lobbyist.
