There's a small uninhabited island off Mexico that's home to a not-so-secret "hidden beach." You've prob seen pics of it, and as is often the case, there's a sizable delta between what's portrayed and the experienced reality. To get there you've got to hire a private boat or jump on one of several overstuffed tours that all depart & arrive at the same time. It’s then an open ocean race to the long, dark, narrow tunnel you’ve got to swim through to get to the beach. Typically, there’s a tiny bit of overhead space in the tunnel to breathe, but when I went the ocean was turbulent and there were some sections where your head was fully immersed. max chaos. I’m a good swimmer, but there were ppl in that tunnel who weren’t equipped for the journey. Strangers frantically climbed on each other to stay afloat, several people turned around, at least one almost drowned. I shot this pic as I arrived into the cave. The view was not a sight for sore eyes - but sometimes that’s just how adventures go.

That . Is . Insane!! How long would you say the swim is inside the tunnel part? Really sounds like my worst nightmare But wow, I’m sure it’s worth it - looks so cool

The swim from the boat to the beach is about 10-20 minutes and the cave prob about 5 min of that depending on how congested it is in there. Definitely intense!
