I vaguely understood the pairing model, but this does help shine light on some things I was not 100% on, so thank you for digging in. What's going to be more interesting to watch unfold is the terms that state no nudity or copyrighted material. It would seem right now, nudity is being allowed if it is 'Art'. This is a super gray area. As more and more users adopt Zora, the boudaries will get pushed. Base has established themselves as the place to be yourself... your content is valuable, but when they have to draw the line, depending on who they draw it on - it could get ugly.
Copyright is just savage. There are many top tier musicians that make nothing on youtube because they are playing other band's songs: El Estepario Siberiano is one of them - argueably the best drummer in the world. There is no monetization blocker on Zora, so there is nothing stopping a musician like him from coming to Zora, other than the TOS stating no copyrighted material. Yet, there are videos now on Zora with other bands music now and Zora isn't taking them down. It really makes me wonder if Zora is just a trojan horse to the infrastructure of copyright law.
I believe this is a better way, but I'm not blind to the hurdles it has to overcome, and they go far beyond the creator earnings model. I believe someone like that drummer should be able to come here and earn, but a big name like that is going to attract a ton of attention - and the fact that almost all of his videos on Youtube are demonitized... if Zora allows him to be monetized... well - then the war begins. 0 reply
