I slept in and rested this morning, then went to a rally in Lviv in support of Ukrainian prisoners of war (both military and civilians) currently held in russian captivity ❤️‍🩹

As many of you know, while Ukraine adheres to the Geneva Conventions and ensures the proper treatment of captured russian soldiers, russia does not. Ukrainian POWs are being tortured, raped, mutilated, and many are executed. russia also holds civilians captive, including journalists, who are repeatedly tortured and mistreated in the same way.

These rallies are incredibly important for several reasons. They raise awareness about what’s happening, especially for the international community, and put pressure on international organizations that are supposed to uphold international humanitarian laws.

Most importantly, they help keep the Ukrainian government in check by reminding it that prisoner-of-war exchanges must remain a priority. They also encourage fellow Ukrainians (especially those fortunate not to have family members or friends in captivity) not to stay complacent and silent, but to keep fighting and speaking up for those who fought to keep Ukraine and all Ukrainians free from russian occupation.
