Alzheimer’s breakthrough! https://interestingengineering.com/health/enzyme-breakthrough-in-alzheimers Here’s an easier way to attempt to explain this article from ChatGPT: Some special helpers in the brain, called astrocytes, try to clean up this trash. But while cleaning, they accidentally make too much of a sleepy chemical called GABA. GABA tells the brain workers to slow down or stop, which isn’t good when you need to think or remember things. Scientists have found that an enzyme named SIRT2 tells the astrocytes to make more GABA. So, if we can find a way to quiet down SIRT2, the astrocytes won’t make too much GABA, and the brain workers can keep doing their jobs well. This discovery is exciting because it gives us a new idea for helping people with Alzheimer’s disease feel better by keeping their brain city clean and active.
